LHD'S CONTINUE TO SLASH PROGRAMS
NACCHO periodically surveys local health departments (LHDs) to measure the impact of the economic recession on LHDs. According to results from the latest survey, 55 percent of LHDs cut programs between July 2010 and June 2011.

LHDs collectively lost 5,400 employees to layoffs and attrition during the first half of 2011. 45% of all LHDs reported reduced budgets, and an even larger 52% percent expect a lower budget in the next fiscal year.
