Mission Statement

Our Mission:

To support local health departments in their work for all New Yorkers to prevent disease and disability, promote health and safety, and protect our residents from risks and threats to our water, food and air supplies, and from other potential health hazards.

To accomplish our mission, the New York State Association of County Health Officials (NYSACHO) serves as the voice of local public health linking together the 58 local health departments that comprises New York’s municipal public health system. Together we:

  • Advocate for local public health across New York State.
  • Build and sustain public health infrastructure.
  • Promote and support efficiency of operation at the local level.
  • Further public health priorities.
  • Promote and share the best health practices to the public as well as offer training and resource sharing opportunities.
  • Develop programs and policies on behalf of our members with the NYS Department of Health, state government entities,community-based organizations, the health care community, and educational institutions.
  • Work to enhance and sustain the public health workforce by addressing issues of quality, staffing and resources.
