An incumbent of this position is responsible for the performance of public health nursing activities including specific tasks as mandated by New York State Public Health Law. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Supervising Public Health Nurse and the Medical Director, or in his/her absence the Director of Public Health. Serves as the Public Health Director’s representative on various committees, meetings, etc. Does related work as required.
The title of Public Health Nurse is Competitive, requiring applicants to meet minimum qualifications established for the position. Permanent employment requires successful completion of the civil service examination requirements. Licensure and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university. Copy of college diploma is required at time of application.
Appointees must satisfactorily complete all applicable training courses approved by the State Health Department within designated time frames.
Possession of a valid driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated or otherwise demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Must be available in the event of a public health emergency.
Salary: $54,288 (2019; CSEA SG XV); benefit package available including: health, dental and vision insurance, paid leave time, NYS Retirement System, Deferred Compensation Plan
