Responsibilities

Applications are now being accepted by the Department of Health to fill a Senior Public Health Engineer vacancy. Civil Service Examination is a requirement for appointment to become permanent. Competitive Examination to be announced at a later date.

This is professional public health engineering work requiring a high level of technical knowledge and professional competence. An incumbent in this class will be required to administer specialized public health engineering programs and assist in the formulation of public health engineering policies. This class differs from Public Health Engineer because of the complexity of the work performed, the level of technical knowledge needed and the requirement of a professional engineering license. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Principal Public Health Engineer with considerable leeway for independent judgment in carrying out assignments. Supervision is exercised over subordinate professional, technical, and clerical personnel. Does related work as required.

Minimum Qualification

Possession of a New York State Professional Engineer’s License and either:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Master’s Degree in Engineering and two (2) years of experience as a public health engineer; OR
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and three (3) years of experience as a public health engineer.

Special Requirement

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Salary: New Employees: Grade 16, step 02: $ 40.4249 per hour; $73,573.32 annually
