Responsibilities

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is semi professional work involving the provision of personal care to sick, disabled or aged persons at their place of residence. The duties of this position are designed to provide the incapacitated person the opportunity to convalesce at home. The actual duties performed are ordered by a health care provider and in compliance with the New York State Department of Health’s matrix of permissible and non-permissible activities for the provision home health aide services. Assignments and care plans are developed and implemented by a Registered Nurse. Employees will work in close cooperation with and under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Bathes patients and give personal hygienic care;
Assists patients in performing exercises prescribed by appropriate professional personnel;
May assist patients in taking self-administered medication, prescribed by a physician;
Makes beds and performs other tasks to provide a suitable environment for patients;
May plan and prepare meals for patients;
May do marketing for patients;
May perform light housekeeping tasks essential to patient’s health care;
Cares for patient’s clothing, including light washing, ironing and mending;
Assists with simple business matters and social contacts to maintain patient’s independence;
Performs specific functions as related to patient’s illness.
