Ulster County Department of Health seeks a full-time (35 hrs./wk.) ($41.34/hr) Public Health Engineer to work in its Environmental Water Programs Division. This position is of a professional public health engineering nature involving complex responsibilities in relation to the execution of environmental health programs. Successful applicant should be well versed in public health engineering knowledge and judgement including but not limited to: measures for improvement and compliance with state public health laws and sanitary code; assisting in the promotion of public health through application of environmental health practices; assisting in the enforcement of the provisions of all local and state public health laws and sanitary codes regarding environmental health matters; investigation of conditions and problems; and preparation of complicated technical reports. Does related work as required.

- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a master’s degree in engineering and one (1) year of satisfactory engineering experience in environmental health; OR
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and two (2) years of satisfactory engineering experience in environmental health.
Note: A doctoral degree or equivalent academic education in engineering acceptable to the State Commissioner of Health may be honored in lieu of one (1) year of the above required experience.
At time of employment and throughout the duration of employment in this title, the incumbent must possess and continuously maintain a license, and current registration, to practice professional engineering in New York State.
Special Requirement for appointment to Ulster County positions: In accordance with Ulster County Legislative Local Law Number 14 of 2007 or by other State and Federal Statutes, candidates for employment to all Ulster County positions must obtain clearance for appointment from the Department of Criminal Justice Services or other mandated Federal and State regulatory authority based upon fingerprinting and a criminal history background check.
If this is an Ulster County position it will require a criminal background check and a candidate will be required to complete and sign a Criminal Background Investigation Release Form. Upon a conditional employment offer a candidate will be required to be fingerprinted accordingly.
